A letter noteworthy mostly for the names of hometown pals that Babe drops.
The house Babe grew up in only had a bathtub--no shower. I know, because the only time I ever took a bath was when I visited my grandmother in the same house.
Babe's family had a grape arbor at the house on Lexington Avenue. I remember it well from visiting my grandmother in that house years after this. This letter, like many others, references that arbor.
"We played checkers all morning but nobody said anything. We have to go back this afternoon and play some more."
Babe tests high enough to qualify to apply for officer's training—but ultimately doesn't get the chance to do so.
